What is a Class like?

Walking into a CrossFit gym is different than a normal gym.

The everyday routine:

1. Warm-Up: Everyone goes though a structured warm-up to prevent injury.

2. Strength: Next is a strength component of dead lift, cleans, snatches, squats, or gymnastics work.

3. WOD (Workout of the Day): Here starts the hardest part of the class, a programmed workout to complete for either time, rounds, or completing work ever minute on the minute happens next.

4. Cool-Down: Lastly you roll and smash out muscles to recover for the next session!

Also if anyone has interest in trying or starting CrossFit, Grove City has a Box/gym you can test out along with a great coach! They have a Facebook page too: CrossFit Grove City

A New Take on Physical Education & Athletics

Schools are even adopting CrossFit into their classrooms around the world. Teachers say that they like the workouts because each one can be a quick and simple activity to get all kids up and moving. Also, some teachers out west have even been able to set up a full box in their school. CrossFit is also being implemented into school athletics for students. Some schools provide students with the options to develop teams or compete as individuals at competitions as way way of feeling part of a team. I think this is a great way to get students who are not gifted at excelling in sports that involve a ball. CrossFit provides an avenue for every student to feel successful and part of something.

Check out the video below where a school intergrated CrossFit into everyday PE!

Happy Veterans Day!

Veterans Day is all about honoring Vets, and today we did that through a workout called "Three Wise Men". CrossFit dedicates and names Workouts of the Day (WOD's) to Veterans that community members can try out. Also, they contribute many more countless workouts to Vets you can test yourself with. One of the more demanding WOD named "Murph"consisting of:

 1 mile run
 100 Pull-Ups
 200 Push-Ups
 300 air squats
 1 mile run
**All for Time

This workout is named after Murph who served in Afghanistan and usually programmed every Memorial Day to honor his service. Since today is Veterans Day our Box completed the workout "Three Wise Men" to honor three men who served for our Country. The WOD Programmed to honor Veterans Day was:

"Jeremy"
AMRAP (As Many Reps As Possible) in 4 Minutes:
5 Hang Squat Snatches Rx 95 lbs.
10 Barbell Burpees

--Rest 2 Minutes--

"Ben"
   AMRAP in 4 Minutes
10 Power Cleans Rx 95 lbs.
20 Pull-Ups

--2 Minute Rest--

"Beau"
   AMRAP in 4 Minutes
15 Box Jump Overs Rx 20"
30 Wall Balls Rx 14 lbs.

Top Reasons to Start CrossFit

Most fail to see the functional fitness components of CrossFit and label it as "dangerous", but that's not the case. Many people who try CrossFit get hooked because of the constantly changing community based competitive atmosphere.

 5 reasons to begin!

1. Positive Atmosphere: Walking into a CrossFit box you will notice the group fitness class working together and cheering/pushing each other one.

2. Constantly Changing: The workouts never repeat, you are being continuously challenged to complete functional gassing movements in a quick fashion. So that means no walking up to the treadmill for the never ending last time again.

3. Keep It Simple: In ten minutes or less you can be out of breath and get in a quality workout. For example try this: 7 Minutes as many rounds as possible- 5 burpees, 5 Push-ups, 10 air squats and see how you feel compared to stepping off the treadmill.

4. Anyone Can Do It: literally anyone, CrossFit has a Masters division of 55 year olds to a Teen Division. The Olympic lifts may scare people away of convince them it is dangerous, but that's only if you ignore the Coaches cues and instructional methods.

5. Improve Metal Toughness: During a workout (WOD) you are going to be in a rep that you want to take a break or rest, but CrossFit will help you push though and prove your body can do more than you think.
